Responsibilities

• Supports development teams with practical questions regarding the design and application of APIs in their daily activities.
• Contributes to the development and updating of guidelines, standards, and design principles for the use and setup of APIs.
• Encourages knowledge sharing within the organization by organizing knowledge sessions, conducting reviews, and guiding colleagues in practice.
• Collaborates with product owners, architects, and development teams to ensure API guidelines are applied uniformly.
• Contributes to the further development of the central API expertise team and helps ensure knowledge and quality around API management.

Requirements

• HBO (higher professional education) working and thinking level, preferably in Business Administration, Business Informatics, or a similar field.
• Experience with business and information analysis, preferably gained within a government organization or a comparable complex environment.
• Demonstrable experience with designing and applying APIs, including RESTful APIs and working with OpenAPI specifications.
• Experience with legacy integrations, including: RPC-like APIs (SOAP, custom JSON-RPC, proprietary interfaces) & transition situations from RPC to REST.
• Experience in designing RESTful APIs, and the ability to read, write, and review OpenAPI specifications.
• Understanding of topics such as lifecycle management, contract-first development, version control and deprecation, backwards compatibility, and HTTP methods.
• Experience with conducting reviews and providing substantive guidance or support to development teams.
• Knowledge of API gateways is a plus.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

You work closely with product owners, architects, and development teams to ensure that the API strategy is applied consistently and future-proof. You encourage knowledge sharing by organizing knowledge sessions, conducting reviews, and guiding colleagues in practice. With your expertise, you make a significant contribution to strengthening the central API expertise team and help further increase the quality, coherence, and maturity of API management within the organization.
