Introduction

As an Analytics Engineer within OpenAI's Go-to-Market (GTM) Data team, you will be crucial in fostering a data-driven culture and improving strategic decision-making. This full-stack role involves data modeling, metric definition, visualization, and analysis, building scalable data sources and products that provide reliable, actionable insights to the business.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with GTM teams to identify high-impact questions and translate business needs into data models, metrics, analyses, and scalable technical solutions.
• Define, source, validate, and operationalize key business metrics, ensuring teams effectively incorporate them into planning and daily decisions.
• Lead cross-functional data projects across established and emerging business areas, including developing data strategies for new domains.
• Build scalable data models and pipelines, integrating and transforming data from various sources into trusted, accessible datasets.
• Create dashboards, reports, analytical tools, and other data products to enable stakeholders to perform self-service analytics.
• Manage the full lifecycle of metrics, analytical models, and data products, from initial exploration and prototyping to production and ongoing maintenance.
• Determine the most effective approach for each problem – be it an analysis, metric, data model, visualization, or self-service product – considering audience, urgency, complexity, and expected value.
• Exercise strong judgment in prioritizing competing requests, balancing immediate business needs with long-term investments in data ecosystem quality and scalability.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity while ensuring clear, tested, and maintainable code, data models, and documentation.
• Translate complex findings into clear, persuasive narratives through presentations, written memos, and dashboards tailored for diverse audiences.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in a relevant data role within fast-moving, results-oriented organizations.
• Ability to independently structure and manage ambiguous, high-impact business problems from initial framing to recommendation and execution.
• Highly autonomous, resourceful, and creative in navigating technical, operational, and stakeholder constraints.
• Strong judgment in prioritizing tasks and determining the appropriate level of investment for various data initiatives.
• Deep SQL expertise and extensive experience with large datasets and designing ETL workflows.
• Proficiency in effective software and analytics engineering practices, including the use of AI tools for efficient development without compromising system robustness or code clarity.
• Proficient in a quantitative programming language, preferably Python.
• Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau or Looker, with a strong understanding of enabling effective self-service analytics.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to data accuracy.
• Demonstrated significant business impact, particularly within Sales, Finance, Support, or other GTM functions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with custom visualization frameworks such as React, Streamlit, or Plotly Dash.
